Marina Chambers

Business Development Manager – RoadAI, Vaisala Xweather
Marina Chambers leads business development for RoadAI at Vaisala Xweather. She helps local authorities, transport agencies and contractors across the UK and Ireland start using AI to monitor road condition. RoadAI analyses standard video to turn routine network surveys into frequent, objective data on defects, assets and surface condition. That supports planned preventative maintenance and safer roads.
Marina has worked in international business development and technical sales for more than 15 years. Before joining Vaisala in 2022, she was International Sales Manager at Cooper Technology, supplying pavement and materials testing equipment to highways organisations around the world. Before that she held senior business development roles in St Petersburg. Combining engineering-led sales with close work with highways authorities has given her a practical view of what it takes to move new technology from pilot to everyday use, from data quality and independent validation to procurement and integration with existing asset systems.

10-Minute Tech Talk: Adopting AI to Manage Road Maintenance and Safety

16:10 - 16:20

This session will explore how AI-enabled tools are moving to everyday use in road maintenance and safety, and the practical choices road custodians face when deciding what to adopt.

  • How the technology has evolved: from manual surveys and specialist vehicles to AI analysis of standard video, and from annual snapshots to frequent, near real-time condition data
  • Where AI is delivering today: defect and asset detection, planned preventative maintenance and winter road condition monitoring such as surface state and friction
  • The choices custodians face when adopting the new technology -  independent validation, data quality, integration with existing asset systems, procurement and cost, and how to start small and scale
  • Questions to ask yourself before you decide which technology is right for you
