Deirdre Harrington

Senior Lecturer - Physical Activity and Health, University of Strathclyde

Deirdre Harrington, PhD, is an experienced academic with a demonstrated history of working in higher education research in Ireland, the US, England and now Scotland. She has worked on and led health-related research projects with global teams since 2010 on childhood obesity, family-based type 2 diabetes prevention and physical activity advocacy.

As part of multi-disciplinary teams, she has received research funding from the NIHR Public Health Research programme, the European Commission, Wellcome Trust and the MRC Global Challenges fund.  As a Senior Lecturer at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, she now leads Strathclyde’s Active Mobility Hub.

This cross-discipline group of researchers and practitioners is co-researching the movement of people in place in Glasgow and beyond. The Hub is going from strength-to-strength and Deirdre has been energised by bringing her health behaviour change and intervention evaluation experience together with civil and environmental engineering within the Hub.
